Make a children's high chair on a home woodworking machine. DIY children's table and chairs. Video #4: direct keyway connection for joining board panels

Furniture for a children's room should be of high quality, environmentally friendly, and hypoallergenic. But many manufacturers do not pay attention to the increased requirements for children's furniture - they use low-quality materials and make the fastenings unreliable. Using such furniture may harm your child. That's why some parents come to the conclusion that it is worth making a children's table and high chair with their own hands. Moreover, assembling it is not so difficult.

Materials

Of course, when choosing material for children's furniture, you should opt for natural solid wood. A wooden table and chair will not only be a decoration in a child’s room, but also environmentally friendly, will not cause allergies, and will become practical pieces of furniture.

It is better to make a table and chair from beech wood. It is easy to process and does not release resin. But as a budget option, pine or birch are quite suitable, only they need to be deresined, since the resin is unsafe for a child, and it can ruin clothes.

Plywood, as the cheapest material, is also quite acceptable when making a highchair. It can easily bear the weight of a child, is lightweight, and can be easily processed.

Chipboard is a very fragile material and can only be suitable for a tabletop.

As an option, you can build a table and chair from plastic bottles in the playground area at the dacha. At the same time, you practically do not need to invest money, and if exposed to weather conditions, such a kit will not suffer.

Preparation

Initially, you need to make detailed drawings with all dimensions. Please note that when planning furniture for a child, you should not make sharp corners that could injure the child during active games.

If you're not entirely sure about stability, make a 1:1 scale model out of cardboard before making parts out of wood.

To fasten parts together, you can use spikes and glue, but for the reliability of the structure it is better to use self-tapping screws and corners of various shapes.

Material processing

Before assembly, all parts must be processed. To do this, you can use an electric planer, or sand the wood with sandpaper.

Then you can treat it with various dyes such as stain, rather than simply highlight the texture of the wood or paint it.

If you want to varnish your products, it is better to choose one based on turpentine. It does not contain toxic substances and will not harm your child's health. After you have coated the parts with varnish, you need to sand it with sandpaper. And then cover with a finishing layer of varnish. In this case, the wood will be well protected, and the shine will not disappear for many years.

Making a regular chair and table

To assemble a regular chair, we need to cut out the following parts:

  1. Short legs - 2 pieces, length 25 cm, cross-section 3.3 x 3.8 cm.
  2. Long legs - 2 pieces, height 53 cm, cross-section 3.3x3.8 cm.
  3. Back - 1 piece, size 10x30 cm.
  4. Seat - 1 piece, size 30x30 cm.

Crossbars for tying a chair under the seat - 2 pieces, 25.7 cm long, 2 pieces 25.2 cm long.

In this case, the legs should have a narrowing from the middle of the chair. For long ones, reduce the thickness towards the top to 1.9 cm, and short ones - towards the bottom to 2.4 cm. This is necessary so that the front legs do not interfere with the legs, and the back is at a slight angle.

First, we attach the rear legs; to do this, we screw the crossbar between them with self-tapping screws. We do the same with the front ones and fasten them together.

Then we screw the back. We check that all parts have a clear horizontal fastening. Otherwise, the aesthetic appearance of the chair will not be very good.

At the end of the assembly, screw the seat.

For the table we need 4 legs, a frame made from the same block. We make them from a block and the tabletop is made from plywood or chipboard. The sizes here depend on your wishes and the height of the child.

We assemble the harness, attach the legs to the corners and screw the tabletop on top. The table is ready. The size of the screw must be carefully selected, otherwise you can drill right through the tabletop, which will ruin the aesthetic appearance and may injure your child.

Making a chair from plywood

Since plywood is easy to process. It's easy to make a carved chair out of it.

In order to make it you will need:

  • Sheet of plywood, 8 mm thick.
  • Drill, jigsaw.
  • Drill, screws.
  • Sandpaper.
  • PVA glue.
  • Colorless varnish based on turpentine.

Based on our dimensions, we transfer the drawing of the chair onto a sheet of plywood. You can use a jigsaw to cut unusually shaped holes, which will give the chair an interesting look.

In order for the sides of the chair to be completely identical, you must first cut out one, then trace it on a sheet of plywood so that the second side wall completely coincides with the first.

You can make them in the form of an elephant. You will get an original design of the chair.

After all the parts are cut out, the sections must be carefully sanded using sandpaper.

We assemble the chair, to do this we attach the seat and back with glue, and secure everything with self-tapping screws.

We coat the chair with varnish.

Making a high chair for feeding a baby

The simplest model of this chair is a transformer, which easily folds out into a separate small table and chair.

We make the base from solid wood, the back and seat of the chair from plywood. The tabletop is made of laminated chipboard.

We will need a wooden block with a section of 20x40 mm, laminated chipboard, size 200x340 for the table top on the chair and 450x380 mm on the table, plywood for the seat. In the absence of laminated chipboard, countertops can also be made from plywood.

First we assemble the table. We make two frames from the bars. We connect them with crossbars so that later the chair legs can be inserted between them. Screw the tabletop.

The chair is made in the same way as a regular chair, only we use plywood for the seat and back, onto which you can sew an oilcloth cover and insert foam rubber for softness. This will make it easy to wash the high chair if your baby gets it dirty with food, and will not allow the foam rubber to get wet.

Other types

You can also make garden furniture from plastic bottles. To do this, select bottles of the same size. A 1 liter capacity is quite sufficient for a child. We wrap it with tape to form a seat. To ensure a smooth surface, cover with a wooden box. All that remains is to sew a leatherette cover, and an excellent stool for the garden is ready.

How to decorate

Even the best quality handmade furniture may not please your child. Therefore, it needs to be decorated. You can use different methods for this.

Bright paint. This is the simplest method. Before varnishing, you can paint the table and chair with bright paint, thereby attracting the child’s attention.

If you have the ability to draw, you can draw various cartoon characters or simply apply a child's drawing.

If your chair does not look very beautiful, but is reliable, then all the flaws can be hidden by sewing a fabric cover. It can always be washed if necessary.

Another method of decorating a chair is stickers. You can buy them ready-made or make them yourself from self-adhesive film using a stencil.

Design

You can make any chairs and tables with your own hands, as long as your imagination and ability to use tools is enough.

This set of table and chairs is durable, beautiful, it is simply ideal for a children's room, you can also make such a set for a kindergarten or school. By making such a kit with your own hands, you will greatly delight the children, while saving a lot of money.

The table cover and chair seat have rounded corners to prevent children from being injured by bumping into them. The height is suitable for children aged 2 to 8 (depending on size).

The chairs have attractive heart carvings on the back of the chair, the same on the table backsplash.

Such a set can be made from MDF, 16 mm thick, and pine. Individual elements can be ordered and cut to your dimensions in any carpentry shop, then you just need to assemble everything together. The design turns out to be very durable (I personally checked the entire assembly while sitting on it).

To make such a kit we will need:

TABLE :
1,600 x 600 mm, 16 mm thick - table top;
4 elements 70 x 504mm, thickness 1 6 mm - aprons at the bottom of the table with cut out hearts;
4 things. 32 x 32 x 584 mm - table legs.

CHAIR :
8 pcs. 32 x 32 x 700 mm - rear legs of chairs;
8 pcs. 32 x 32 x 334 mm - front legs of chairs;
4 things. 340 x 350 mm MDF 16mm thick – seats;
8 pcs. 40 x 26 mm MDF 16 mm thick - strips for attaching a chair;
4 things. 155 x 270 mm MDF 16 mm thick - chair backs, curved with cut out hearts;
8 pcs. 40 x 2 70 mm MDF 16 mm thick - front / back strips;
8 pcs. 40 x 26 mm MDF 16 mm thick - strips for side supports of the chair;
4 things. 40 x 2 86 mm 16 mm central strips;
Wood glue;
Putty;
Primer for wood;
Acrylic paint with glitter.

TOOLS:
Drill;
Random orbital sander 80-, 120- and 240-number sandpaper;
Jigsaw;
Tape measure and pencil.

Progress of work on the manufacture of a children's table and chair

Preparation

The decorative part of this project is cutting heart shapes into the bottom of the apron and on the backs of the chairs. First we draw a template, for this we use a jigsaw. We cut slowly and carefully, and then sand with sandpaper. Next, cut out a slight curvature on each back, at the top.

In addition, it is necessary to make a 40 mm cut on the side (340 mm edge) and 32 mm on the back (350 mm edge) to attach the rear leg.

Before we start assembling, we will sand all the corners of the table and chair.

1 . Attach the front legs to the front support rail, making sure the top edge is level.

2 . Assemble the back of the chair by securing the back legs to the back of the chair. Connect all the elements using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws.

3 . We connect the sides together, fasten them with screws and glue, as shown in the photo.

4 . Attach the frame and two side drawers to the rear leg.

5 . Assemble the front part as shown below.

6 . Secure the chair seat with self-tapping screws.

ABOVE: The chairs are ready for sanding and painting.

7 . Assemble the table, starting by attaching the legs to the aprons. Make sure the splashbacks are flush with the top of each leg before attaching the tabletop.

Finishing work

Fill all screw holes with putty. Let dry and then sand with 240-grit sandpaper. Wipe to remove all traces of dust.

Treat all areas of wood with primer. Wait until everything dries.

Apply two to three coats of acrylic glitter paint, allowing time to dry between each coat.

Purchased furniture for a child’s room, especially made from natural materials, can be quite expensive. In a store or online, you don’t always find exactly the option you like. You can create a children's high chair and table from wood yourself. The work will not be difficult if you prepare all the necessary parts and tools, use your ingenuity and imagination. The reward for the work is a unique product, as comfortable as possible for the baby and practical in home life.

The benefits of making a high chair with your own hands

A DIY chair will cost much less, and one made according to your own sketch will meet the intended parameters and the required degree of comfort for the baby.

The reward for the work is a unique product, as comfortable as possible for the baby and practical in home life.

All natural wood parts can be purchased in specialized departments of construction stores. They will select boards and bars of the required sizes for you.

A child's high chair, created with one's own hands, is high-quality furniture for a child. In the process of work, you take into account the dimensions of the seat and backrest, which are as comfortable as possible for a growing baby, and check the strength of the structure directly at home.

All natural wood parts can be purchased in specialized departments of construction stores.

A wooden chair you create with your own hands can be decorated to your liking, rather than being satisfied with a ready-made solution for purchased furniture.

They will select boards and bars of the required sizes for you.

Required materials and tools

To create a chair you will need various materials. Individual parts will be made from them. First of all, these are wooden blocks and boards from which the frame, seat and back are assembled. Instead of natural solid wood, you can use chipboard or plywood, but these materials are not durable. For fastenings, take sufficient self-tapping screws. You will need medium-hard sandpaper.

A child's high chair, created with one's own hands, is high-quality furniture for a child.

Dimensions of bars (length):

  • support legs – up to 20 cm;
  • seat frame connecting strips – up to 20 cm;
  • backrest lintels – up to 20 cm.

A wooden chair made by yourself can be decorated to your liking.

During the manufacturing process, the thickest bars with a cross-section of 5x5 cm are used for the legs. For the planks, parts are taken with a diameter half the size of the supporting ones.

For the planks, take parts with a diameter half the size of the supporting ones.

The parameters of the seat board (height and width) should also not exceed 20 cm. The back part may be slightly higher, but preferably no more than 30 cm.

  • they are less durable;
  • The environmental friendliness of such products has not been 100% proven.

The parameters of the seat board (height and width) should also not exceed 20 cm.

To make a chair with your own hands, you need the right tools:

  • screwdriver;
  • screwdriver;
  • jigsaw;
  • hacksaw for wood.

The dorsal part may be slightly higher, but preferably no more than 30 cm.

The assembled chair will “require” original decor. In addition to the carved option, you can use paint or other materials to apply a design or appliqué. To accurately apply the image you will need a stencil.

The assembled chair will “require” original decor.

Deciding on design and construction

For a wooden product, you can come up with any option. A highchair is usually made with straight supports and the following forms of the back structure:

  • solid square or rectangular;
  • wide truncated cone;
  • straight through (with jumper bar).

To accurately apply the image you will need a stencil.

Creating a product with your own hands requires careful preparation. You must first make a sketch of the project. Visually draw a diagram of the connections of all parts separately with calculations of sections and lengths. Following the sketches, you will recreate the model in reality with exact parameters. A chair that has all the right dimensions will fit the baby and will not create any inconvenience.

For a wooden product, you can come up with any option.

Certain models are created with the expectation that the child will sit at a common table with other family members. In this case, high legs are chosen for the product, which are not attached exactly vertically in relation to the seat and floor, but more widely. The lower part of such a chair will look like a truncated cone, connected for stability by wooden blocks around the perimeter. The top part will be approximately 30-35 cm below the table level.

A children's high chair is usually made with straight supports and the following forms of the back structure

If you have certain skills, you can assemble a folding product. Such items can be easily removed if necessary into storage areas.

For the chosen design solution, the parts are processed in accordance with it.

Manufacturing process: step-by-step instructions

After preparing a drawing with exact parameters, we begin to assemble a simple children's high chair.

  1. Calculate the length of the legs exactly according to the diagram, saw off the excess with a hacksaw.
  2. Cut out the jumper bars to size that will secure the frame in the seat area.
  3. Connect them to the supporting structure. Add furniture glue for reinforcement.
  4. Attach the pre-sized back and seat using self-tapping screws.
  5. All wood parts must be cleaned with sandpaper to avoid roughness and burrs.

A chair that has all the right dimensions will fit the baby and will not create any inconvenience.

If the parts are disproportionate, “adjust” them according to the design diagram using a hacksaw. To make the chair you created with your own hands comfortable, ask your baby to sit on it, ask how comfortable he is.

If all dimensions were determined correctly, the child will love the new furniture. To ensure the parts are smooth, sand the surface again.

Certain models are created with the expectation that the child will sit at a common table with other family members.

To varnish the product, use only safe compounds - a special coating for children's furniture, environmentally friendly and having the appropriate certificate.

The top part will be approximately 30-35 cm below the table level.

After finishing the exterior with varnish, let the chair dry thoroughly for a day or two. Then you can begin decorative finishing, if any is planned. If it involves carving, then varnishing is done after finishing the artistic treatment and sanding the parts.

Decorating a chair

Use a jigsaw for carving. You can make a decoration in the form of a flower, cutting it out in the center of the back, or any geometric shape. First, mark the area of the future decoration with a pencil so that the carving is even. Parts such as legs and back can be carved. The corners of the seat can be rounded using a jigsaw and sandpaper.

During the manufacturing process, the thickest bars with a cross section of 5x5 cm are used for the legs.

The top can also be made not strictly rectangular, but a truncated cone, rounded, compound. In the latter option, you will need additional bars and cross bars - one or two. They are secured using special holes at the junction with the dorsal frame. This is a rather labor-intensive process, but if you wish, you can choose this option.

For fastenings, take sufficient self-tapping screws.

All steps for processing parts must be performed before the chair is assembled - this way the work process will be faster, more convenient and neater.

If you have certain skills, you can assemble a folding product.

To make a home-made piece of children's furniture look more interesting, you can apply a design to the back and seat. To do this you need to use safe paints. The color scheme should be bright and cheerful. Simple ornaments, floral patterns, and imitation of children's toys, such as cars, look great on wooden furniture.

Instead of natural solid wood, you can use chipboard or plywood, but these materials are not durable.

Due to the fact that the size of the product is small, a large pattern will become a kind of accent that attracts the child’s attention - he will like to sit on such a beautiful chair, play games or have breakfast.

You can use appliqués for decoration – there are plenty of adhesive bright films on sale.

The image will turn out smooth if you use a stencil pre-cut from paper or thick plastic.

You can use appliqués for decoration – there are plenty of adhesive bright films on sale. Whether the image will be monochromatic or multi-colored depends on your imagination.

First of all, these are wooden blocks and boards from which the frame, seat and back are assembled.

It is not recommended to use bulky (protruding) parts, both small and large, in finishing the seat or back of a children's chair. Firstly, it is inconvenient for the child, and secondly, they quickly fall off with frequent use of the product.

To create a chair you will need various materials.

Children's chair made of plywood

Plywood, the material is relatively cheap, convenient and therefore quite popular. After renovation or remodeling, there is usually a lot of scraps left behind that end up in the waste container. Shown here is how to turn plywood scraps into a comfortable chair for children. Basically, the chair is made like a box, making it simple, durable and easy to resize to suit your needs. No bolts or screws are needed for manufacturing, since the entire structure is held together with glue. Additionally, you can change the shape of the side panels, thus changing the design as you wish.

Design and materials. To design this chair, all you need to know is your child's height and weight. Knowing them, you can make any shape of the side panels because the assembly method is the same.

You will need:

  • 2 side panels: two sheets of plywood (50 x 50 cm)
  • Seat panel: 1 sheet of plywood (35 x 35 cm)
  • Back panel: 1 sheet of plywood (35 x 65 cm)
  • small wooden beams to support the back panel
  • small nails
  • 3 bars (needed to create a rigid frame while the glue dries. Must be shorter than the width of the seat (!)

IMPORTANT! The strength of the seat is determined by the accuracy of assembly and the quality of the glue. Therefore, the width of the seat panel and the width of the back panel must be the same and straight!

  • Screw two large plates (side panels) into the corners.
  • Set the dimensions of the seat side panel.
  • Cut out the profile.
  • Set the dimensions of a certain corner (radius approximately 10 cm).
  • Saw off the plywood along the radius, now you have two identical panels.
  • Glue the parts
  • Glue wooden blocks on both side panels (according to the dimensions of the sketch). These bars should support the seat panel and the back panel.
  • The second panel should be identical.
  • Assemble two side panels with 3 bars. Apply glue to the back panel slats and to the sides of the back panel. Slide the back panel into place until it touches the floor.
  • Apply glue to the seat panel and push it into place. Wipe off any remaining glue.
  • Clamp the structure with clamps if you have them. After the glue has dried, remove the bars and round the remaining corners.
  • If you wish, you can make a small shelf under the seat panel.
  • Coat the finished structure with varnish.

Children's chair table - two in one

Functional children's chair that can also serve as a table. There is a position in the form of a chair, the height can be changed at your discretion, and a position in the form of a table. This design is really very easy to make, look at the step-by-step photos and you will be convinced of this. Surely your children will really like it.

So, let's begin!

Dimensions. Cube 400 mm x 400 mm x 400 mm. Very simple;)

What you will need:

  • 2 sides 400 mm x 400 mm
  • Rear wall 400 mm x 364 mm
  • Seat sheet 364mm x 382mm

- measure and cut the material
Give the edges the correct shape; the author did this with a chamfered router. If you don’t have a router, regular sandpaper will do, but you’ll have to work hard. Basically, you sand the edges and surface. Now you can glue all the parts. Take several clamps to make the structure strong. The last step is sanding again. The author does not use any varnishes or paints, believing that this is not necessary for children's furniture. Maybe he's right. Moreover, you can provide this opportunity to children.

Classic, original, hi-tech and retro - everything you can do with your own hands

www.novamett.ru

To provide your child with comfortable, durable, beautiful furniture without spending a lot of money, you need to make it yourself. Start with less - try making a highchair with your own hands. Look at the photographs of similar pieces of furniture presented on the Internet, ready-made diagrams, drawings, determine what dimensions the finished product should have, how it will fit into the interior of the children's room, etc.

Which material to choose?

The choice of manufacturing material is of no small importance. Of course, it will depend on the financial capabilities and skills of the master, but the factor of its naturalness and safety for the child’s health should not be overlooked. In the production of children's furniture, it is best to use raw materials from deciduous trees. The advantage belongs to beech, since its wood has good density, hardness, and is easy to process (for example, compared to oak). You can also use linden and birch. Coniferous species - pine, spruce, but to prevent resin stains from forming on the surface of the product during operation, the wood must be deresined.

When choosing wood for a chair, be sure to ensure that the pieces are free of knots. Such areas of wood are less amenable to processing and are less strong. Active use of the high chair can lead to breakage at the knot, resulting in injury to the child.

Inexpensive wood materials include plywood. It consists of several layers of veneer of coniferous and deciduous trees. In addition to its low price, the advantages of plywood include light weight and ease of use. The elasticity of the material allows you to create original curved shapes of various parts

Chipboard is considered the most short-lived but cheapest material. A significant drawback is the use of formaldehyde and phenol-formaldehyde resins (6-18%) in its production. Also, chipboard does not have a dense texture; because of this, the fastenings are not reliable. In children's furniture, flat parts are often made from chipboard (as well as from plywood): seats, backs, table tops.

What you need to make a wooden highchair

We offer drawings and manufacturing procedures for a children's chair. Its dimensions:

  • product height – 630 mm;
  • distance between legs: depth (from front to back) – 280 mm, width (between front/rear) – 320 mm;
  • length of legs: rear – 630 mm, front – 410 mm.

For a more reliable connection of parts, self-tapping screws and tenons will be used simultaneously.

To make a wooden chair for a child with your own hands, you need to prepare the following materials, tools and fasteners in advance:

  • We will use a block with a cross section of 50x50 mm in the construction of the frame.
  • 20x40 mm block for stiffening ribs and crossbars.
  • We will make a chair seat from plywood, a board or a piece of solid wood 30x10 mm.
  • To enhance the reliability of perpendicular connections, we will use metal corners.
  • Electric jigsaw or hacksaw.
  • Plane.
  • Screwdriver or electric drill.
  • If fastening will be done using spikes, you will need an electric router.
  • Sandpaper or sander to smooth wood surfaces.
  • Tape measure, square, ruler.

Step-by-step instruction

  1. First of all, you need to cut off 4 legs from the timber (20x35). 2 of them should be 410 mm long and another 2 – 630 mm. Then we prepare 4 connecting strips (from the same timber) 280 mm long. They will be assigned the function of stiffening ribs, as well as handrails.
  2. Using spikes of a standard diameter (from 8 to 10 mm), we connect the left legs: the short front and long back. Drill holes in the required places of the parts to be joined with an electric drill. For a strong connection, the hole must have a diameter 0.5 mm smaller than the tenons. Then generously lubricate each hole with glue and firmly hammer the spike into it.

  1. Next, we connect the front and rear legs with crossbars at a height of 250 and 410 mm (we get the height at which the seat will be installed).
  2. Similarly, in the same sequence, you need to do the right legs - connect the front and back.
  3. The places where the chair legs connect with the crossbars are additionally reinforced with metal corners. We fasten them with self-tapping screws.
  4. Upon completion, we compare the two resulting designs. They must mirror each other, otherwise the chair will turn out uneven.
  5. We fasten both halves together using 20x20x310 mm bars. We drill holes in the crossbars with a diameter of 8 mm. We screw into them self-tapping screws containing internal hexagonal recesses in the head. At the end of this process, we get an almost finished chair without a back and seat.
  6. At the next stage of work, you need to make the back. To do this, we take several (2-3) pieces of plywood or planks with the following parameters: width - 30 mm, thickness - 10 mm. We glue them together and place them under a press until the glue dries. We secure the back to the long legs with small nails. This detail will give the entire structure additional rigidity. In a similar way (from glued boards of the same size or plywood) you should make a seat.

Children's furniture should not only be comfortable and light, but also completely safe for the child. Therefore, after assembling the chair, it must be processed, varnished or painted. When playing with his furniture, the baby will move it and turn it over. All surfaces, edges and joints must be thoroughly sanded using sandpaper or a sanding machine, sharp corners must be rounded.

Several layers of drying oil will create a protective coating for the wood and extend its service life. Afterwards you can start painting. Choose light or bright colors for the decor of children's furniture; paints that are wear-resistant will not peel off. A layer of colorless water-based varnish will help securely fix the paint.

High chair for baby

Such an original chair can be made using simple drawings, or even without them, from a lightweight (715 g) material - plywood. The chair has small dimensions, namely:

  • product height – 360 mm,
  • height to seat – 180 mm,
  • seat – 190x240 mm,
  • back – 115x235 mm.

You can make a test model out of cardboard to see if a highchair of this size is suitable for your child. If this product is small, increase it by the required factor and feel free to get to work.

Materials and tools

  • Plywood 8 mm thick.
  • You can assemble the chair using spikes or simply screws, if desired.
  • Feather drills, jigsaw.
  • Sandpaper.
  • PVA glue.
  • Drill with screws for connecting parts.
  • Clear varnish.

Operating procedure

  1. Based on the data or your measurements, draw a side part for the chair with a pencil on a piece of plywood.
  2. Drill decorative holes using feather drills. Large ones - using a jigsaw.
  3. To ensure that the second sidewall turns out exactly the same as the first, we place the finished part on plywood and outline it with a pencil. We cut it out the same way.

  1. We mark the back, seat and parts that give the chair rigidity and prevent the sides from loosening.
  2. When all the parts of the chair are ready, it is necessary to make them absolutely smooth, rounded, carefully sand the surfaces and especially the cut points.
  3. We assemble the chair using glue and fasten the joints with screws.
  4. At the final stage we are decorating the chair. Cover it with several coats of stain if you want it darker, or paint it a bright color and top it off with a coat of water-based varnish.

With a little imagination and your own drawings, you can change the appearance and finish of the high chair, and also make a table for a child of a similar design. Your child will appreciate it.

Do-it-yourself highchair: drawings, dimensions, diagrams

A high chair is a necessity for parents of a baby. It is needed primarily for feeding the baby. Our experts have prepared a number of recommendations, thanks to which you can make a highchair with your own hands.

High chair and its features

A child will need a high chair at the age when he can sit independently, that is, from five to six months. Before this time, the baby will have no need for such a piece of furniture - he still cannot support his back well. And after six months, the child, sitting on it, will be able to eat, play, and do creative work (for example, sculpt or draw). But in such cases you will also need a table. This design is called combined.

Let's look at the features that distinguish a children's high chair from an adult chair:

  1. Comfortable design for a baby, not for an adult, due to its size.
  2. The correct design for the child’s back (since the child’s skeletal bones are not yet strong, and the posture is in the process of formation, the back of the chair must support the correct position of the baby’s back).
  3. The highchair should be equipped with safety belts and an anatomical insert that is placed between the legs (such additional components will help the child take a comfortable position and will be able to hold him while sitting), the seat and back are soft.
  4. The design of the highchair must still be sufficiently stable, even if it is equipped with wheels for moving.
  5. Select only environmentally friendly, natural materials from which highchairs for children are made.
  6. It should not be bulky, because it will be inconvenient to use and will not fit into the interior of the room.

Do-it-yourself wooden children's chair: easy, simple and fast

Still don't know how to design a highchair yourself? Our article will help you understand all the intricacies of folding this irreplaceable piece of furniture. You will see that assembling children's high chairs from wood with your own hands is not difficult.

Material

Before you start assembling the chair with your own hands, you should decide on the material. Of course, wood is the best choice; it is completely safe and environmentally friendly. Which wood to choose? Let's start with beech. Beech is considered a dense and durable tree, and it is easier to work with than, for example, oak. If you're looking for something on a budget, birch and pine are good options. But before starting work, the wood should be deresined, since the resin, even if it is natural, is unsafe. You can also choose plywood to make a chair - a good material made from layers of tree veneer. Plywood is not heavy and is easy to process. Chipboard is the most affordable, but at the same time, the most short-lived. It is suitable for making a table top for a high chair.

Preparation

You can find materials and drawings for children's furniture in any hardware store. Dry the wood by leaving it in a room at room temperature for a day. The wood will become suitable for work.
Are you not sure that you can make all the elements of the chair with your own hands? Contact a hardware store.

The back and seat should be rectangular. The sides of the children's chair can be made and decorated as you like. Try not to make a highchair with sharp corners - they are dangerous for the child.

Material processing

Naturally, the material cannot be used in its original form for either a regular chair or a high chair. It needs to be processed. You can do this yourself or turn to professionals. The wood should be processed using a hand router or regular sandpaper. With a router, processing must be done in cross sections. Apply varnish. Buy varnish with a turpentine base - it does not contain toxic substances. After letting the varnish dry, sand the surface several times. For a smooth finish, coat with varnish again.

Construction procedure and diagram

On: another option for designing a high chair. Must watch????

To fasten a regular chair, you can use dowels. They are good because they can also be made from wood with your own hands. Holes with a diameter of 6-8 mm should be made under them. Place the pieces tightly onto the dowels by tapping them with a hammer. Secure with a clamp and leave for 24 hours. If you need to secure the elements of a high chair, it will be more convenient to use confirmats. Such ties are suitable for folding a large number of parts.

You can make drawings and diagrams yourself or find them on a construction site. It’s better to do the drawing yourself, measuring the child’s parameters. Carefully calculate the dimensions, height and width ratio. Of course, it is more difficult to draw a diagram for a high chair yourself, so it is better to turn to ready-made drawings.

If you have made a drawing, but are not entirely sure whether it is correct, test it by folding a cardboard model of the high chair.

Typically, children from 1 to 6 are provided with either regular wooden chairs for games or activities, or a high chair. You can make a separate small table and chair with your own hands using a drawing.

Regular wooden chair

For a regular DIY high chair, you will need the following parts:

  • 2 short legs, 2 long (53 cm high). Dimensions of 4 legs - 3.8 * 3.3 cm;
  • seat (approx. 30*30 cm);
  • back (6 mm thick, 22.5 cm high);
  • bars under the seat;
  • drawing of an ordinary chair.

A corner should be made from the wide parts of the tall legs. Use a sander to smooth the sides of the short legs and bars. Take a drill press and install a 6mm drill bit. Measure the depth of 1.5 cm on the drill and mark it using the drawing. Drill along the long legs at an angle, making 12 holes. Using a chisel, we select everything from the drilled parts and make grooves. We insert the back into the grooves.

If part of the back rests, cut out a triangle and hammer the back into the groove. Make spikes on the sides of the block and round the corners. We make grooves for the tenons in the legs. We assemble the frame. If the back is too wide and does not fit into the grooves, measure and cut off the excess. Don't forget to make triangles on the sides of the back so that it sits firmly in the grooves. Take your time to insert into the back legs. Make a handle for the chair in the back. Mark the distance and cut a hole for the handle.

We insert the back into the frame. Now we make marks on the seat and cut it out. Sand the seat and insert it into the frame.

Lubricate the holes, elements and spikes for fastening with glue, secure with clamps, and leave to dry.

Wooden baby high chair

You will have to spend more time and money on a wooden high chair for feeding your baby. In order to make such a piece of furniture with your own hands, you will need:

  • bars with a cross section of 400*200 mm
  • board (thickness 20 mm)
  • fibreboard measuring 2000*2100 mm.
  • drawing of a high chair

For the chair you will need: 4 legs, 2 upper crossbars and 2 lower ones, 3 crossbars. tabletop.
For the table: legs, slats, crossbars 4 pieces each, table top

We cut out the parts for the chair from the bars and sand them with sandpaper. We cut out the elements for the chair arms from the board. We connect using dowels and glue. Holes with a depth of 30 mm will be needed for the dowels.

For the side, you will need crossbars, 2 curves, 2 legs. Lubricate the dowels and holes with glue. First, assemble the bottom crossbar and legs (the angle should be 90 degrees). Then we assemble the top crossbar and two curves. We tighten everything with a clamp. Leave for one day. The second side is folded in the same way. Make sure they are the same.

Now another important stage - assembling the seat and backrest. Be careful here, as children are very restless during feeding, so all parts must be firmly fixed. You need 6 parts from a plate measuring 300*250 mm. Round the corners so that the radius is 50 mm. Next you need to start sanding the ends. Lubricate the parts with glue and press. You can connect the back and seat with screws. We glue the crossbars to the sidewalls. Then you need to connect the legs with all the planks, attach the sides with crossbars and fix the tabletop at one end. We get a ready-made baby high chair.
